Welcome Back!
The 2011-2012 Season is upon us.  This will mark the 11th Season for the Guelph Connection Hockey Pool.

Below are the rules so that they are handy for everyone (without taking up the entire Yahoo! page):

LEAGUE RULES:

1) The league is a keeper style league, such that:
a) Each team will protect 7 players on their roster from the following year's draft;
b) A keeper must be a player listed on the Yahoo list of available players
c) A maximum of one goalie per team can be protected; and
d) A total of one (of the seven) keepers per team must be a prospect.

2) A prospect is defined as:
a) A player who is less than 25 years old as of October 1 of the draft year; and
b) Has never exceeded 140 fantasy points (using the scoring system of the previous years).

3) The League will consist of 20 teams at all times.

4) If there are less than 20 managers, the unmanaged team(s) will be mothballed for that year, or until a suitable manager can be found. Yahoo will "auto-draft" for the team, and the highest ranked players will be placed into the staring line-up each night by the Commissioner. The team will not trade or add/drop players.

5) The Commissioner will have the ability to reverse any trade, and/or add/drop, that he thinks is done to intentionally circumvent the rules or create an unfair competitive advantage for another.

6) All returning managers must sign into the pool a minimum of 14 days prior to the draft to be guaranteed their spot.

7) All new managers will be invited to join the pool 13 days prior to the draft; new managers will be invited by, or with permission from, the commissioner.

8) All keepers must be declared a minimum of 7 days prior to the draft. Failure to declare keepers will result in the commissioner declaring keepers for that team.

9) Keepers can not be changed within the 7 day period prior to the draft.

10) The draft will be completed in a non-snaking manner.

11) The draft will be completed in reverse order of the previous year's regular season standings. The first four draft positions will be determined through the use of a weighted lottery. The lottery will occur between 7 to 14 days prior to the draft. The weighting will be as such:
a) 20th place = 40% chance;
b) 19th place = 30% chance;
c) 18th place = 20% chance; and
d) 17th place = 10% chance.

12) The draft will occur on the Sunday prior to the start of the season, at, or near to, 8:30 pm, unless a need or circumstances arise to modify this date/time.

13) The commissioner can add/remove/alter rules in the best interest of the league.

14) If a manger is acting in a way that is detrimental to the league, they may be locked out of the league; the commissioner would then moth-ball the team until a new manager could be found or an agreement could be made to re-instate the manager.

15) The point system will be:

a) For skaters: G (2), A (1), +/- (1), PIM (0.5), PPG (2), PPA (1), SHG (2), SHA (1) GWG (2), SOG (0.1)
b) For goalies: W (3), L (-1), GA (-0.2), SV(0.1), SHO (5)

16) Rosters shall consist of :C, C, LW, LW, RW, RW, D, D, D, D, G, G, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN, IR, IR

17) The time a player spends on waivers shall be 2 days

18) There will be no "can’t cut lists", maximum transactions, maximum trades, and/or maximum games played per position

19) The regular season will last from opening night in the NHL until 5 weeks prior to the end of the NHL regular season

20) The playoffs will occur in the final 5 weeks of the NHL regular season

21) The playoffs seeds will be determined based on the regular season standings, with the top 16 teams competing in the playoffs.
a) The playoff brackets will be set so that the 1st place team will play the 16th place team, 2nd will play 15th, etc. in the first round;
b) The ensuing rounds will be split into winners brackets and consolations brackets, with the teams re-seeded (the highest ranked winning team will always play the lowest ranked winning team);
c) The third round will consist of a winners bracket, a 1 loss bracket, and a 2 loss bracket.
d) In the Final Round, Games for the 5th, 7th, 9th and 11th place are dependent upon a teams point achievement in previous bracket only, and not on the seeding or points in any other week. The highest point winners will play of 5th, the remaining winners will play for 7th, etc.
d) The final round of the playoffs will be 14 days long

22) Any decision that a commissioner makes can be overturned by a 50% vote (i.e. 10 managers).

23) Trading draft picks is allowable given:
a) A pick has to be exchanged for a pick.
b) Only picks from the next draft may be traded.
c) Keepers should not be treated as draft picks. The draft starts at round 8 (according to Yahoo) and not before hand. Therefore the only movable draft picks are rounds 8 through 17 (based on Yahoo's designation). To keep make things consistent and to make sense from a draft standpoint; we will call these rounds (8 through 17) 1 through 10. So everyone has 7 keepers and 10 draft picks (1 through 10)

24) There is no trading of anything between the trade deadline in March, and the Draft
